Beach Life in Vietnam: An Bang and Hoi An

An Bang Beach Fishing Boats

If you are looking for instant relaxation, warm, clean tropical waters, and slice of simple beach life in Vietnam, then An Bang is definitely for you. A pastel perfect and seriously chilled out fishing village, life here is slowed to a snail’s pace, and yet you can still get quickly into one of Vietnam’s most beautiful and buzzing tourist spots, Hoi An, which is just 3km away. But, it’s a world away from the (gorgeous) hustle and bustle of Hoi An, with no hotels or happy hour bars in sight. Instead of hotels, the tree lined road behind the seafront is smattered with candlelit restaurants and homestays (like B&Bs), where you are welcomed into the homes of a community of friendly local people. And of course, there are still lots of beautiful lanterns. Stay in one of these homestays for literally next to nothing, a five minute walk away from one of the most beautiful beaches Vietnam has to offer, and make ‘shall we go for a swim yet?’ your only decision of the day.

And, trust me, after a hair raising journey off Monkey Island, this little haven was just what we needed.

Where we stayed
We stayed at An Bang Beach Homestay. The owner, Duq, and his family could not have been more friendly or welcoming. The house was beautiful and really quite grand, with high ceilings and a big spacious en-suites in all the rooms. Duq’s Dad waits up every night to check everyone is home and safe (not that there’s anything to worry about here!) Did I mention it cost £20 a night?!

What we did
There are lots of cool things to do around An Bang and Hoi An, but this was our final precious few days of relaxation before we were flung back to the daily grind of the real world. So did we visit the tailors, have something made, visit Clam Island? Naaah, we laid on the beach and drank pina coladas. Luckily there are some less lazy bloggers out there, like KP Schwan, who have rounded up what to do in Hoi An, if you want to tear yourself away from your sun lounger. As for what we did, a picture tells a thousand words…

That pretty much rounds off the Vietnamese adventure (sob). The food here was so good that it deserves its own post, though, so watch this space!
