Wow. it’s been a long time since I’ve been on here; how did those two months slip by so fast? Maybe I’ve had a bit of writer’s block, maybe I’ve just been hibernating, probably a bit of both. But now it’s December! And I’m getting festive with a capital F. I’m not usually one to put my tree up on the 1st of December, or to get Christmassy straight away; all the merriment and shopping is usually on a to do list until around the 20th, at which point it becomes a frantic and stressful dash. Not this year! I’ve got right into the Christmas spirit this weekend, with a special quote-a-long, sing-a-long, elf filled, Santa filled, spaghetti syrupy screening of everyone’s favourite Christmas film, Elf…. I know.
Sneaky Experience host pop up film nights, that they call ‘adventurous pop-up cinema screenings to audiences of all ages in unique and inspiring locations’. London has had Secret Cinema for a good few years now; I’ve yet to go but its reputation precedes it. One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest in a real life, creepy, abandoned mental hospital? I digress… If this is Leeds’ answer then I’m 100% on board. It’s enthusiastic, it’s home-grown, it’s a little bit am-dram in the best kind of way; the kind that takes you back to a bygone youth of plays in community centres, and rehearsals in cold halls (at least it does me anyway). It’s friendly and familiar, wholesome and comforting, like the BBC and Blue Peter. Thumbs up…
A picture tells a thousand words, so here are some of last night’s snaps from Leeds Dock. I will leave you by saying do not despair! No, I’m not being paid by them but if this has sparked your interest then you can see similar spectacularly themed screenings of Frozen and It’s a Wonderful Life in the run up to Christmas, around Leeds…
Love, spaghetti and candy canes,
Vickie
PS – I like whispering too xx
